SUNY GCC - Genesee Community College

Tutoring for all GCC students is available free of charge by professional and peer tutors. Students can work with a tutor online or in-person on the Batavia campus in the Alfred C. O’Connell Library. We currently offer tutoring for the following: accounting, math, writing, chemistry, physics, general biology, anatomy & physiology, Spanish, history, veterinary technology, criminal justice, and academic success skills.

Schedule an Appointment

Students can make appointments with tutors by visiting Who’s Next. The landing page will allow you to schedule appointments with several offices, so be sure to select “Learning Center”. Please use your GCC email address when scheduling an appointment.

Academic Success & Study Skills

Learning Center tutors additionally offer 1:1 academic success and study skills appointments. Whether you require assistance with time management, organization, or effective studying, we are here to help! To access this service, please select “Academic Success & Study Skills” when scheduling an appointment on Who’s Next.

Workshops

We hold several academic success workshops each term. Workshops are held in person and remotely online. Please stay tuned for our upcoming workshop schedule.

Learning Center Resources

Students visiting the Learning Center may take advantage of the Library’s quiet study spaces, textbooks, anatomic and veterinary models, and computers. Additionally, the Learning Center provides free access to time management and study resources in a range of convenient and adaptable formats.

Writing Assistance

If you would like your paper looked at and commented upon by a writing tutor but you don’t have time for an appointment, you can email your paper to tutoring@dbctl.com (from your GCC account). Tutors are not editors or proofreaders, but they can help identify patterns or mistakes you make in your writing.

STAR-NY Tutoring

STAR-NY is a group of SUNY schools which offer free online tutoring for enrolled GCC students in math, writing, accounting, biology, chemistry, nursing, and other disciplines. Each participating SUNY school (including GCC) identifies trained and qualified tutors to provide online tutoring. Tutors are available Sunday through Thursday from 7pm until midnight. Have questions? Please email tutoring@dbctl.com

How to Access STAR-NY Online Tutoring

To access an online tutor during the days and times specified above, please go to the STAR NY Website and click on the “Request a Tutor” button located near the bottom of the “Available Subjects and Times” page. You will then be directed into the virtual tutoring environment to begin your tutoring session. Select the room for the subject with which you would like assistance. You may have to wait because students are helped in the order in which they log on; the tutor should greet you in the chat box area to the right of the whiteboard.
